Ever seen a snake accidentally brush up against something hot? Instant recoil... They definitely can feel it

I have no idea how this fire started but I for one am checking all my power strips, surge protectors, heat pad and heat tape for anything that could cause a problem.
Check and re-check.

That´s the reason, why my main set up is built of glas and aluminium, with very few heat sources.
I don´t like to think too much about the anguish of those poor snakes.

Snakes commonly sustain serious burns when they contact unprotected or malfunctioning heat lamps or other heat sources (including hot rocks). Perhaps they were in a deep sleep or had other problems. My snakes react to heat by rolling and then coiling up. Mama touched the lamp and did just that once, they can feel it.

I have seen exactly what overheating a snake looks like, and it's not pretty.

It would be inappropriate of me to describe it in this thread.
