Can't find 'em!!! Haven't seen any all year. Used to have a lot.. not anymore.

Lots of jumping spiders (especially phidippus audax) but hard to find...

TONS. TONS. TONS. of those guys though...

And centipedes are cool. Lots of them.

Go and find one then! Mantises are the only bugs that I wouldn't want to smash.

    They are my favorite "bug".

I just can't find one. Trust me, I've been trying all year.

Also i can toss that orb weaver in a jar, and as long as he has his web, he's good....
I can toss a jumping spider in a nifty little "critter keeper" I have, with substrate and a log, and he'll be good.....
I can toss a centipede... you get the picture.

But a mantis is more complicated.... Bigger cage etc, and I do not have room for a terrarium.. I MAY be able fit one somewhere, but that's reserved for garters.

    Re: The Nature Photography Thread

What is this bug? My mom said it was a cricket, but it's not. It matches some of the features of katydids in eastern WA, but it was my understanding that they were in western WA. She was kind of cool. She just sat in my hand for a little bit.

I was kind of scared at first, because I never saw one before.

Shortly after I let her go I saw a huge black snake go into a blackberry thicket I wish I had been able to catch it, it was almost too big to be a NW.

Looks like a "katydid" to me.

Interesting. There was two of them, one looked like it might have been a male (no ovipositor). Okay, that's another bug I wouldn't smash. She was an awesome little bug
