Jeez, seems like just yesterday that we had 45 days of straight rain. It was so wet we were getting 2 inches of rain in a day, days on end, and the ground was saturated that the water had nowhere to go.

No it's so bone dry that water evaporates before it can penetrate the ground. Man it's dry today. The wind is blowing around 35mph from the east side desert and the gorge is funneling it to the Portland area. Humidity is around 18 percent and its heating up fast.

I think I'll have to do some tank misting today for sure.

The weather sure isn't helping the fire situation. It's hot, the wind is blowing hard, and the humidity is nearly non existent.

The fires are totally out of control today across much of Oregon and Washington. The high cascades fire alone has burned somewhere around 150 square miles of old growth forest. What a waste of timber!

The wind is taking the smoke right over my house. It's blocking out most of the sunshine. There's so much uplift at the site of the fires, that it creates huge "tornados" of smoke and flames reaching hundreds of feet into the air like this. The smoke is creating it's own weather and there has even been lighting produced by it.

    Now for pics I took.

Near I-205 at East Mill Plain Blvd. in east Clark Co. WA. Looking east/SE

Right in front of my house, looking east:

There are no clouds. It should be bright and sunny. As you can see, it's not. Too much smoke. Luckily, so far there is no smoke at ground level. I can't even smell it.

    Actually, it's really hot.

Conditions have changed a bit since those photos I took, were taken. (see, i really could use that program I was talking about earlier. LoL) I is needing good english.

Only the far west horizon of the sky is smoke free now. 2/3 of it is just brown. No more sunshine. It's 85 degrees, winds coming from the east (where the fire is) sustained at 15 mph, gusts to 25, humidity less than 20%

Still can't smell smoke. The air quality at ground level is pretty good so that's good news.

Lows tonight are going to be pretty high. (around 60) Low to upper 90's tomorrow with more wind and low humidity. Not good news for the thousands of firefighters at work, putting in 30 hour shifts. Not good at all.

It hit 50 degrees 3 days ago at 4 am. That is too cold, 80 is too hot It should just stay at 65-70...

A few hundred feet in elevation (you're much higher than I) can make a 10-20 degree difference in the overnight low. Lower elevation is warmer overnight during the summer. In winter, wind sheltered areas are colder and it's warmer where there's wind due to the friction that wind creates in the air.
