Yes they can. Babies escape much easier (and much more often in my house) than any other size. Do not underestimate them. "Supermax" class quarters are needed to hold them. Not even a tall glass wall will stop them. They'll scale it and escape.

Babies become "sticky" by becoming wet, from, say their water dish. they then scale the sides of the enclosure like spiderman and sneak out the crevices in the top. Sneaky snakes

Oops. Sorry, I just edited and mentioned that. You're totally right. You have to be careful with plastic tubs too. If the edges of the lid are only slightly flexible, they'll squeeze through it. I have a slide lock tank with a tiny hole in the middle of the screen. No way that I can see for them to get to it. Came home one day to find one with his head in that hole, dangling. Still can't explain how he got there.

Basically nothing's too big. They're not as sedentary as pythons and most do not feel the need to feel boxed in although plenty of plastic plants may help them feel more secure. But you could also easily house say, 10 babies in a 10 gallon until they grow. A fine screen secured nice and tight will be necessary since as it was mentioned, they can scale glass walls when damp and squeeze through the slightest gap.
