Three of my garters have had tendencies to escape.

Green Girl and Blackie both had a habit of bolting out of the enclosure whenever the lid was opened. And, of course, it was always a hassle trying to chase them down and get them back in. They were both wild caught, so due to multiple escape attempts on their part, as well as a high level of hostility, both of them were released into the wild.

Scarlett has escaped three times so far, and all three of them were because she bolted for the top of the enclosure when I had the lid off. And, of course, it would be a hassle trying to chase her around the snake room, and she would get extremely hostile when I caught her again. Poor girl was traumatized on all three occasions. I've decided to see if my two-week vacation will calm her down some, but if not, I think she'll be going out to the woods with all her cousins.
