Good point. Never thought about it that way.

Anyway guys, I guess I can explain and take some of the mystery out of what's going on and why I'm selling my snakes. Sale is pending on my share of this house to my brother who already owns half. I'm going to take the 80 grand and run, lol. No, I've just gotten into some debt that needs to be taken care of. After that, I'm moving to CA (near Modesto) I'll be driving a u-haul and I didn't want to put the snakes through that.

I'll still be on the forum from time to time, and maybe next year I'll make some trips to to the CA coast for red sideds, coast garters, atratus, etc. and get back into the hobby then.

Thanks. I appreciate the kind words.

I just killed (regrettably) the largest "fiddler" (Brown Recluse) spider I've ever seen in my life. I would like to have captured it alive, but as dangerous as they are, and as fast as it was moving, it was kill it or let it get away alive in my house.

The legs must have at least covered the span of an American Dollar coin. When I squashed it, I could hear the exoskeleton "crunching" My God, it was one heck of a spider.

I would much preferred to capture it alive and release it far away after taking pics, but it was just moving too fast. Couldn't take the chance of it getting away and biting someone in the household. A bite from that spider could easily kill one of my dogs.

I remember being at the transit lodge near otter falls, MB. A place where I seen the LARGEST wolf spiders I have seen in my life. As scared of spiders as I am, this brings it to a whole new level.

I always went on critter hunts my whole life but this area is pretty rocky. I was walking down the driveway along railroad ties used as a driveway lane and I seen a big garter flee to between the ties, so I get on my stomach and look into this area where the snake went into, well holy damn there was this massive wolf spider looking like it was ready to run after me, so I scream like a girl and run away as fast as I could.
Another time I was brushing a twig between rocks by the water and I caused a wolf spider, the largest one I have ever seen 5-6 inch leg span dart up the rock surface right in front of me, I got so scared I again screamed like a little girl and ran away as fast as I could crying.
Saw a snake flee to under a rock.. lift the rock, spider.. you know what happened next.
This was at the same place where I caught the monster garter that I swear must have been between 5 and 6 feet long.
As much as giant spiders made me scream and cry there, I really did enjoy that place. I was probably 10 or 11 when we last visited that place and started going to Stephenfield Provincial Park

This sucker had a very distinct "fiddle" or "violin" shaped mark on it's carapace. Although it was a male and generally less aggressive and delivers less venom than a female, these are still the most dangerous spider in the Pacific Northwest. They cause very nasty necrosis and MRSA infections which usually require hospitalization. I know that first hand. I spent several days in the hospital after receiving a bite from one of these and I have a nasty scar as souvenir.

I don't use many as we enjoy the birds. Especially the English/House Sparrows(Passer domesticus).
Had a few as pets over the years. We had one that we would let out in the morning. During the day you could go outside and call her. She'd fly down to your hand. At night she would come in the house to sleep.
Thats so cool. Is there anything you cant raise caise youre awesome Steve.

We get a ton of spiders that make a serious crunch when you squish them. I never look at them after they've been killed... I let my dog play with them. If you pull the wings off of giant blo flies, she'll actually attack them and "protect" us. She will try pushing you away from it if it comes near you while she's herding it away and attacking it. It's really funny. She gets a treat for being such a valiant protector
