Does anyone have information on keeping a Racer?

I just wanted to chime in that in my experience with yellow bellied racers they are very difficult to switch to mice. In my area adults will pound amphibs but rarely take to mice in captivity. As Wayne mentioned I would stay away from the insects although I have witnessed on a few occasions them going for grasshoppers and large mormon crickets, so it is not that they can't eat insects, it is more that there are better options for them.

Sounds like you are off to a decent start.

They sell these in most discount stores for a whole lot less than pet shops do..never paid over $8 for one. Lowes has them for $5

Got one of these I was using with a spiral bulb until recently. Then I had to rearrange my snake room, and didn't have a place to hang it. For now, I'm using a fluorescent stick light on top of the enclosure lid. Not nearly as bright as I would prefer.

Actually, I now have an idea. It involves shelving brackets and PVC pipe.

nice racer... they do eat insects in the wild...if you can get them to eat anything that's the main thing.

Correct away! I'm thinking I'm going to call him Achilles Heel just because it makes me giggle every time I say it. Even if he turns out to be mean at least there's something good out of it!
