It helps if you have camera ready as they are swallowing a large meal. They'll often "yawn" after swallowing, to realign their jaws.

That was Lily, the first time I ever saw a garter yawn. It always looks to me like she's roaring.
It was really a lucky shot. I was taking a whole bunch of her, because she was new, and that's one I caught.
