What's wrong with the lighting you're using now?

To me it seems to wash out the image. Too bright.

and it's quite sufficient
a warmer light source would draw them out, and they might hurt themselves on it if you can't remove it from their potential reach

Never gave heat from the light a thought. Good point.
I think I'll just work with what I have rather than change.

Maybe try moving the light so it's not as close. Also, adjusting the white balance through the camera settings. Just an idea.

I was so busy visiting the Red Sided garter snake den I neglected mine.
Checking the camera proved no activity. I honestly thought I'd missed this years emergence.
I was wrong. Just took this photo with the new security camera I installed under mey deck.
Looks like my outside scrubs survived the Winter.
I'm a happy man.
