    Eyecaps

This is the second time my snake has shed and the skins "head" gets stuck under something, or twisted around, or whatever, and the head is completely messed up. I know you should always make sure the eyecaps come off when they shed, so I always look, but... it's hard when there's no head. I'm not worried at all, since he sheds so smoothly, but I'd kinda like to know if there's a way to make sure the eyecaps aren't still on him..

The head is always the first part off, and is subjected to rubbing, the snake needs to get it hung up on something to initiate the shed.

The best way (Provided that you can't simply see the eye caps on the shed) is to look at your snake's eyes.

Right, that's what I did, but I didn't know how hard they were to see. But if it would be obvious i got nothing to worry about. Thanks

Many times a retained eye cap will also leave a small amount of skin around it.
Looking very closely you might see the edge of the skin sticking up.

But you're saying it would be easy to see? If that's so, I got nothin' to worry about. Looks perfectly normal. Glad to know. Makes me feel safer. Thanks.

    Re: Eyecaps

If you suspect he retained his eyecaps, you can rub a warm, wet washcloth over his eyes. Very rarely I've had one retain her eyecaps and I couldn't tell, but I rubbed a wash cloth over her eyes and the eyecaps both came off. However, most of the time, I can see who retains them and who doesn't, because there's usually a little white outline around their eyes.

I really don't think he did. I was just asking to make sure I'd be able to tell if/when he did. But I can't see anything so... Thanks.

    I said "many times"
Sometimes no skin is left around the eye cap and it's very difficult to see the retained eye cap.
I've had some pretty torn up sheds and it's taken a great deal of time but I've been able to find the eye caps.
Of course I don't know your situation.

Eye caps are very noticeable in snakes, if he has them still stuck, you'd notice. Although in all honesty garters rarely have stuck eye caps due to the fact they don't need amazingly high humidity that causes stuck eye caps.
