Yeah, it is. It's funny, I always find them in the most unlikely places. Like a patch of woods surrounded by urban development, miles from water. I don't get it.

Your not where I am Chantel. You're in a different ecoprovince. Naturally the sallies you find there will not necessarily be the ones I find here. There's nothing here but ugly brown ones or brown and orange newts. There's just nothing here that looks good, does well in captivity, and can be kept without refrigeration. I have doubts that your "stunning little guys" would do well in anything but a plastic tub stuck in a fridge. No fun in that.

I have no idea. There is nothing here with "nice colors" and like I said, most sallies around here cannot be kept successfully unless it's in a fridge. If there are Ensatina's around here (there are none that I have ever found) then you can almost count on them being the plain brown variety. Our sallies SUCK around here. I kept rough skinned newts before and they make pretty good aquarium or viv inhabitants but already been there, done those. Anything else around here is insignificant, tiny, unimpressive, and difficult to keep. The Dicamptodon's are alright, and easy to keep, but not pretty, and illegal to collect.

I like "ugly" brown sallies. I like "ugly" brown or grey snakes that are really, really plain to most people. I love the northwesterns here because they are usually a uniform brown or black, with an orange or white stripe and that's it. Everyone thinks they're ugly, they're the most beautiful to me.
The salamanders we saw here were also brown, but as a kid I went for the brightly coloured ones. We also had some mudfrogs (as our neighborhood called them) that were just plain brown and I loved those little guys. They looked kind of like a dart frog, but with different shades of brown in them. And, the salamanders we caught here only came out when it was hot. Never once had I seen them on cool days. Trust me, I was a serious outdoorsy kid who liked playing in the mud and looking for bugs and other creepy crawly, scaly, slimy things to show my mom.

Well If I'm going to have sallies in a water/land viv, I want large colorful ones. If I wanted poop brown, I'd just put a turd in there. Anyway, I like marbled and spotted sallies and I think they would do well in such a setup. I just can't get them here.

A poop-coloured sally would at least be more active than a turd.

Not sure I'd want to if you have poop in vivs. I've seen way too many weird things in the 22 years of my life.

I agree. But I like the colorful ones too.
