yah its pretty neat, i never realize there was such a huge garter snake following, I am amazed with how many people actually keep and maintain the many different species and subspecies of thamnophis.

i guess growing up around them and collecting them and releasing so many over the years I guess I took for granted what a wonderful and beautiful species I had easy access too.

my goals are to head for a small island this weekend to collect some melanistic Maritime garter snakes. I will take pics and post my weekend excusion to the island on this forum when i return.

hopefully I will find some nice examples of melanistic phase.

thanks again all, I only have a couple of species of garters, but my main collection consist of african colubrids, I have 100's of snakes, the exact number I am not sure but I know its close to the 400 range, and still growing. Once you get into a serious snake collection the emphasist is to stretch the limits as far as you can go!
