I would just be careful if youy get any wandering garters...they have been known to eat other snakes...rarely, but has happened. was a photo of a wandering eating a lined snake and I have seen them eat lizards

Black necked, whether cyrtopsis ocellatus or cyrtopsis cyrtopsis will probably have different temperature and/or humidity preferences than most garters due to their range and habitat. Although usually found at high altitude, they live in very dry forests or mesquite desert in the States, and easterns (ocellatus) can be found well south of the border in Mexico, in semi-tropical climates. That's something you need to keep in mind.

Yeah, I know about the caninbalisim of wandering garters, staying away from them.
So, is it not a good idea to put a black-necked with him? I just love the colors.
And are there any others I should be carefull of?

Sorry for all the questions, this is my first snake.

Erythristic Northwestern adult male. He's not mine, although I wish he was. I intend to return him to his owner after breeding with my red striped northwestern girl (hopefully) in the spring. She is brumating right now. I am holding off on brumating him until a bit later because he is rather thin. He's picky and only eats slugs. In spite of feeding him well nearly every day, he stays thin.

Ok, sweet. Only slugs? Is that the species or just him?

Just him. He only eats slugs. I have some that eat slugs and worms, or worms only too. My CB babies eat fish, worms, or pinky parts. They aren't picky.

blacknecks should be fine... only cannibalism I've known was with wanderings. accidental cannibalism can happen if one snake smells like food (having crawled thru pieces of fish or food fight over a piece of fish). as long as they are close to the same size there should be no problem
no problem with all the questions! thats what we all are here for!
