Hide and Seek

St. George truly freaked me out today. I'd had his tank open to change his water and had gotten distracted for a little while with a phone call. When I got back there was no snake. Not in any of the hides, not in the shredded paper towel pile, not under the paper towels... No where. He wasn't even under the tank or anywhere around it that I could see. I started tearing apart the livingroom, completely freaking out.

Then I saw a head poking out from under a door, just watching what I was doing. He didn't even move when I went over to open it and pick him up. Little goof ball. At least he's clearly adjusting to being handled, even if he doesn't know he's not allowed out of the tank without me.... And no more leaving him alone for a phone call.

Haha, same thing happened to me when I was feeding Mama and Snakey, Mama decided that she was going to have it her way and take a vacation while I was talking to my boyfriend. Hissed all the way home. It's funny because she's not a mean snake at all, I think she was having a fit because she didn't get her way. She even rushed for the top of the tank when I was closing it. I have a spoiled brat on my hands, but I love her.

Geez, get them together with 'Lily, and we'd have a right bunch on our hands!

One morning, we couldn't find her. Anywhere. Took out hides, dug through the substrate, jiggled through the moss - everything that would send her flying out in alarm that I had dared to disturb her. But... nothing.
I was supposed to be going out, and so I was rushing round the room, flinging things out from corners etc. Couldn't find her anywhere. The thought occured that she had gone out of the room, and the even more terrible thought that she then could have met with my two cats. I was in bits.
Then all of a sudden (whilst I was protruding from under my computer desk, flinging out papers and boxes) my husband says 'she's in the tank!'
'WHAT??!!'
There she was, little head sticking out from her moss. Little minx. There was NO WAY she would ever have stayed put in there while I was checking it out, but no - that day she was content to ignore me and hide.

Ha ha ha! She is great. Even though she's the feistiest snake I've ever met. Sometimes it's hard to believe she was captive bred - she's such a wild one! Gotta love her.

Psh. From all I've seen you'd be like my brother and computers. The computer's having an issue, the brother looks at it, from across the room, and suddenly it's working perfectly. They'd probably be perfect angels if you were around!

Gah, I can't imagine what would happen if I had cats around! Glad all I have is a little pomeranian Chihuahua who is actually really good with St. George. All he does is watches him, and occasionally goes up to sniff him. He also does not enjoy when he's curled up with me and I have St. George out and the snake tries to slither over him. I did try to get him to help me look for St. George, though since I'd mentioned a walk right before noticing the escape, he wasn't really in the mood to be helpful with anything besides getting out the door.

Lily lives in the lounge, and the cats are not allowed in, so the only problem would be with an escape. Hopefully (fingers crossed and touch wood) Lily's cage is pretty escape-proof, and I'm SUPER careful when I open it up and never leave it when open. Hopefully it'll never come to that!
