Re: Smarty Snakes
Mine are on a fattening up frenzy. All the females that gave birth have filled out and continue to bulk up. This will go on into oct. I don't expect to have any breeders in full brumation until early Nov.

Yeah, they know they're small and the clock is ticking. Get left behind, get dead. At least that's what they're instincts should be telling them.
Babies are... well, babies and so are always hungry and the race is on to grow while they can. No change there.
I did notice that Amy (iowa albino male radix) has slowed down considerably in growth and eating frequency. Nothing even close to concerning, just slower than the 3 inches per month he was doing there for a while. He was shedding every 3-4 weeks but this time, it was 6 weeks since his last shed. He's never been brumated but he'll get shorter days and a little cooler the next few months. Just a little slow down/cool down for the season. A sort of preview. He'll probably get a full brumation next winter.
All the breeding age adult females know what's going on for sure. They know summer is coming to an end and are really on a feeding kick, packing it in, even though they aren't really hungry. They're getting heavier now almost as rapidly as when they were gravid.
The few males I have aren't eating much and only about every 2 weeks. Not losing weight though, so no worries.

Re: Smarty Snakes
My babies are still eating, however, my large ones not so much. Someone ate the salmon the otehr day, I have a feeling it was Jesse, who had just shed. Stewie is spending alot of her time soaking in her waterdish. (No mites that I can see) just looks like a leisurely bath. Midnight joined her the other night. Which s impressive considering their size!
I have stopped offering the pinkies for now as they don't seem to want them and I can't waste the money
Little guys get worms and salmon as well as the occasional slug
My frogs eat like there's no tomorrow!
