    Sad day

So I was walking yesterday along my road, caught one live garter (not too spectacular coloring, and he musted really bad), and released him, walked a little further, and know what I found?

A dead Puget Sound Garter snake. Made me so sad, I have never seen them around where I live before, first one I see, and its dead. Kinda made me upset for a little bit. Ever happen to any of you?
    So maybe I am obsessed...

I think the saddest was when I had to finish off one that had been hit by a car and was still alive but the entire middle third of the snake was squashed flat.

That snake looked up at me just as I did the deed.

I hear a lot of people talking about the beautiful blue garter they seen dead on the road, as it has been mentioned before garter snakes seem to turn blue after death (in some cases) It no doubt depends on the type of death and the oxygen in the blood etc...

I've seen what you are talking about with many dead snakes(T.radix) around my area.
    Good point to bring up.

I have seen that here, where we have no blue garters. It was after death.

Yes.. Where I found St. George there was a simply gorgeous mountain garter [dark body with light bluish stripes] If the poor thing hadn't been squished flat as a pancake it would have come home with me...
