Sounds like a plan. Sometimes it's not even necessary to scent though. Cut the pinkies up when they are frozen, add just a dab of water and let them thaw. Sometimes the bloody smell is enough to get them eating them. Of course if that doesn't work, a little fish or fish "juice" mixed in usually does the trick. After they get some pinky meals "under their belt" you can usually stop the scenting and they'll continue to eat them anyway.

I had no problem gitting my babies eating pinkie parts. Only one runt is stuck on only eating guppies. I was so happy when I found my maybe 13 month old females had a perfect birthing, 6 and 4. Very nice albinos and they'll turn out beautiful as they git bigger

And then there's a few of my concinnus babies. The last litter of 7 born huge. Those little spoiled brats won't eat anything else! To stretch the pinkies I have to chop them up frozen, let the blood flow and soak some pieces of night crawlers in there. Even then, some aren't fooled and will only eat the pinky parts.

Never before have I seen such picky concinnus. Won't touch fish, won't touch worms, won't touch anything but pinkies.

    Spoiled brats!

They are of different genes than the rest of my babies. I know it's not a controlled study or anything like that, but I swear to you, there must be a genetic connection to food preferences, not just a localized one based on available food like I thought.

That's why regardless of species, some are harder to get eating certain foods, than others are. I think it's in their genes in some cases. I mean, spoiled meat smells like perfume and perhaps even smells appetizing to a dog but not to us. Know what I mean? Still, generally speaking, it shouldn't be hard at all to get checkereds to eat pinkies even if they don't take them unscented at first.
