I'm sure it's good, but I don't read fiction other than the local newspaper.

Re: Its oh so quiet - garters DO eat insects

I commented on a herping video (Herping with Luka) and "corrected" them stating that baby gopher snakes and wandering garters do not eat insects. Apparently that is not correct.

" I have found several wild F.O.R.D. with stomach contents containing grasshopper legs and wing casings."

Is what they said to me.

I just looked up the video. He should check the stomach contents of a few dozen live snakes and then publish the study in a peer-reviewed journal.

It always struck me as a bit odd that people always said with 100% certainty that garters don't eat insects at all. I'll be the first to agree that they are not good for them, and should never be offered in captivity. But when hungry, in the wild, I really don't think it's impossible that garters or other small snakes may take a go at an insect, especially larvae here or there. As is the case with many topics, more research is needed.

Naturally one has to be open to the possibility. Still, I'd like to see this investigated and shown, before I give any credence to the claim that some or all garters eat insects at a significant frequency.

That's pretty much what I told him! I invited him to show me one video of a baby gopher or garter snake eating a grasshopper. You'd think that with all the videos of them eating all kinds of things, that if they ate grasshoppers there would be at least one video.

Yay! Now I have to drive for 2 a minimum of hours every time I need something herp related. Including mice.

Speaking of which, how many here would pay 120€ (or $150) for a normal corn snake?

    I wouldn't pay $1.50 for one.
