    Bottomless Pits

In my years of keeping garter snakes I've noticed how they are always hungry. Feeding them one day and the next they would eat again, if I let them.
I give my snakes a good amount of food and the next day they act like they've never been fed.
I'm guessing in the wild, for the most part they are always hungry.
    Poor little monsters.

I have seen some very emaciated snakes in the wild, but then again in the wild it's the survival of the fittest

Or at least survival of the ones who have access to food.
I've run across a few lean radixes in my backyard. We've had a big heat wave come through the last month.
I water my lawn a couple times a week to make sure the radixes have a place to come and eat.
It's the least I can do for the joy they give me.

Oh you should see zippy. When I first got he or she (i dont like to call he/she a it) from petco they had been feeding he/she minnows. I purchased some andI did what the petco person told me and gave it as many as it would eat. When I got to 4 I started to worry because it continued to look hungry. I then looked up Garter Snake help and found this site. Once I found out I over fed and that minnows aren't good for snakes I called petco and told them that the person who sold me the snake should learn about what they are selling.

Your call to Petco probably fell of deaf ears but thanks for trying.
Get us some photos of the under tail side of Zippy and we'll try to take the mystery out of this. Here's a link to see the kind of photos we need.

Thank you for trying it's the best we can do until people realize the abuse of reptiles at some petcos and petsmarts, although i have met people at petco and petsmarts that actually do care about the animals like they should
