    Short Tail radix(injury)

Tonight, I made a late run out back to find a few earthworms for some troubled eaters. While I was out I flipped a board to see if I had any visitors. Sure enough. I found this young male T.radix with an injured tail. Looks like a lawn mower injury. My neighbor cut his lawn yesterday, so I'm guessing this guy came from his yard.
I'm a little concerned with this injury as the bottom tail scutes and muscle are missing but the tail bones are exposed. There was no sign of infection and it cleaned up well. I'll apply some Silver Sulfadiazine and keep an eye on it. He's lost a good portion of his tail but it looks like his manly hood was spared.

Oh shoot, Steve, that's nothing. He'll be on the mend and thriving in no time at all. Might have a bit of a disadvantage when it comes to mating, but at least his "manhood" is still intact, so to speak.

He's thinking, "whew.. that was close"

I hate to report he is dead. I wondering if he sustained some other injury like being run over. He seems to be acting normal when we caught him.
    Very strange death.
