Tough Start
On 5/30/10 baby Checkered Garters (Thamnophis marcianus marcianus) were born on the Ranch for the first time. Little did I know but one of the babies escaped the adult enclosure and has been on the loose until today. This picture of her was after a meal and water. I hope this little one, which is far behind in size to its siblings will be OK. I'm excited that I was able to get her to eat so soon.

Re: Tough Start
I once hatched out a clutch of Sceloporus clarkii and somehow missed one of the hatchlings. Found him nearly a month later, still in the incubation container. Naturally, he was starved and very dehydrated. He make it though. He recovered.

Re: Tough Start
As I type, her second meal is in progress.
Guppies and worm pieces.
It looks like her digestive system is working well. Before the feed she looked thin, as if she hadn't eaten.
I won't be happy until the next month is out of the way.
I'm still concerned for this little ones future but feel confident
that this second meal is even happening.
