If I had the means to care for it, I'd love an asian vine snake:

An eastern hognose would be fantastic if I had continual access to the appropriate food sources. I encountered on of those snakes recently, and was completely enamored of it. (I'll post pictures later, in a different thread)

True, they aren't even that expensive either! The problem is that they need extremely high-humidity (between 85 and 100%). They don't generally eat mice, and (from what I hear) they can only drink running water. Given that they reach about 6ft long and are aboreal, they need a very tall aquarium as well. I can't manage all of that!

Perhaps in the distant future, I'll have a reptile house in which I could have a special aquarium for a vine snake of my very own.

See what I mean? Meesa like pinkies!

On the subject of vine snakes, a really big one(around 5 feet) was up for adoption on my local craigslist a few months ago. Like this one. They stated that it would only eat lizards so that's a no-go for me. I think they're really awesome, but no source of lizards for me. As far as housing goes, that's easy. A fogger can help with the humidity while you still provide good ventilation but they do need very large enclosures, lushly planted and designed for climbing snakes. They will drink from leaves and such if you mist them daily. They would be worth trying for experienced snake keepers that have plenty of room and a constant supply of cheap or free lizards to feed them.

    Re: What if...

after my extended stint with an animal that only eats live lizards, I must say I would not do that again
while it didn't bother me terribly to see her kill and eat, and the feeder lizards aren't that hard to get, it did bother me a lot to keep feeder lizards - not exactly sure why

Robert, I know this is a garter snake forum, but I already have my dream animal, and here he is, Mr. Roark:

I love herpetofauna, but my biggest passion is Mr. Roark. He's a great horse, and an irreplaceable best friend.
