Alright wayne. That's about enough. The pics of these smokin' hot flames is making be too darn envious. What's it going to take for me to get just one darnit. I don't want to pay a lot of money!

Thing with flames is that some get deeper red as they age, and some lose red as they age. It's hard to predict what they will look like when all grown up.

    Re: Flame babies

Well, when I came home from work tonight the 2nd installment of flame babies was made. "Big Red" had 27 healthy, some rather large, youngn's, 1 stillborn. So now I'm flush with red, white is still to come (albino checkered), and with any luck some more blue (pugets).

There it is. Now you see, that's what a litter should look like. That's what I would expect. Sometimes not as good, sometimes even better, but here lately it seems that slugs and very few viable offspring are the norm especially for the breeders out there striving for more expensive morphs or new morphs. Flames are pretty much a wild snake. I mean, gorgeous flames are found in the wild. It just seems that after too dang many generations of captive breeding, inbreeding, morph crossing, etc... fertility goes to heck in a handbasket. Am I wrong?

    Re: Flame babies

i agree with conman, i too have noticed the unusual births being posted here and i don't think it can be all blamed on heat sources and stress. Its just like breeding guppies; put 10 in a tank and for a few months you will get lots of healthy babies. After those few months pass it doesn't look so pretty anymore when you start getting babies shaped like a V or the female gives birth to all dead fish. Yet if you add in a couple new fish...problem solved (for a little while) As for fertility "going to hell in a handbasket" i think this is natures way of saying you are not benefiting your species..."no babies for you!!!"

I guess this is the price of "beauty" and the word deformed can be looked at in many ways. I also seen that someone had "dwarf" snakes born this year but will never breed them due to weaker genes. that may be true but its because of dwarfs and other such individuals that we have some of the dog breeds we do.
