    signatures

I see in many of the signatures numbers like: 1.1.0 or 2.0 etc... Can someone tell me what they mean? I wonder if it is male.female or something close to that....?? (tryin' to learn the ropes)

First number (before the decimal) = number of males.

Second number (after the decimal) = number of females.

Third number (after second decimal) = number of unknown gender.

Therefore 3.5.12 Eastern Garters would mean 3 males, 5 females and 12 of unknown gender.

Often you'll see people selling 1.1 snakes, which would mean a true male/female pair.

Here's a 0.1 Eastern that I found the other day:

I just asked this the other day, something interesting if its 2.2.13.15 The fourth one would be the number of eggs. Although that's not applicable for garters

I was hesitant to ask too many questions before getting a feel for the kind of people here. I've seen other forums where it was constant bashing of each other. I have felt totally welcome here and quite comfortable now in asking those "dumb questions" without the fear of being blasted! Great place to gain more knowlege from those who are actually actively involved!

That isn't a dumb question at all. Most people new to reptiles have to ask it. Usually like you, they can figure out it has something to do with the gender but it is something you need to know exactly how it works. Lots of ads selling reptiles list them using those numbers.
Too many snakes! 15 species and counting. 2.2 plus Crested geckos 2.2 Gargoyle geckos 0.2 Chihuahua 2.1 evil cats.

No personal bashing here. Just the occasional heated debate.

Your question was a perfect question and it's encouraging to hear "newbies" asking the right questions.

I know what Hollis Steed is saying, I belong to a laserist forum that has tons of drama.

I do speak up about all the newbie bashing though, it's irritating.

They all spend as much time doing "ban polls" and crap as they do discussing lasers.

    It's counterproductive.
