I had no idea at all as to the vast opportunities for entertainment I'm missing because we don't have cable http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/22/ar...html?th&emc=th

I do have it, but not cable TV. Just internet, and that's all you need with sites like hulu around. I don't know about you but I'm not missing a dang thing by not having cable TV.

    I was being facetious

    on another note
I started the morning with the sewer pipe backed up and a small flood in the basement (the upside of uneven flooring). Awful, right? Not so! In swoops Mike the Plumber - an experience in good cheer and the wonders of plumbing. Not only is my plumbing fixed. I've also been educated, made to feel like clear water is now running through my pipes, and a rush of smile and fresh spring optimism has enhanced my day.
Mood-altering plumbing services - what a concept. So he is a little pricier than the unlicensed guy - in this case it's way worth it.

    100 channels of crap.

Myself I collect box sets of my fave shows, that way I am in control of when the show is on, and no stinking commercials either.

The only reason I have cable is the nick for my kids and the internet.

100 channels of crap? So that's 100% crap which is.... 25% wrong time+25% wrong channel wrong show... let's just say it's 100% crap. Oh wait, somebody already said that

It's official: Hulu will soon start charging for access. I would pay. I would pay the modest fee considering that they carry my fav shows old and new, in hi-def and standard, I can watch when I want to with new shows automatically saved in queue to be watched when I'm ready, the list goes on...
Adds up to 100% NOT crap. Hey, I think I finally get math. NOT.

Considering what I've been getting for 'free' for several years, I would gladly pay up to $20 a month for it. OK. done with the hulu plug.

Most new shows are uploaded as torrent files within moments of airing, and in hi def.

I just downloaded all 10 episodes of "caprica" captured from TV in hi def with the commercials edited out.

A new box set months before it will get released.

Emmy screeners from ebay are awesome too, and cheap.

Dorothy is hooked on that reality junk, Nothing like hours and hours of weirdos chasing ghosts, cops arresting weetards & junkies... Etc.

But it gets her off my back while I play on the internet

What's this "torrent" you speak of? wouldn't happen to be the same one that comcast has the ability and right to block, now would it?

Yes I know all about Torrents AND the alternatives. Torrent specific protocol are blocked by comcast ISP resulting in less than 1kbps torrent download speed. THE ONLY ISP besides dial up at my address, which means, the only ISP. NO other home options. NO choice of ISP since 1999. 2012 (hehe doomsday) is rumored to have 1 other isp option. I guess I'll hold out until doomsday

Either way, I don't care. I have alternatives to torrents or P2P of any kind. collected perhaps a thousand movies < DVD/PC and many seasons of favorite TV shows. I just want to watch old favorite series or new episodes/seasons and based on my subscription choices for shows, have a few waiting for me when I am ready to catch up.

About the only restrictions I have is that my cable company charges me extra if I download more than 15gb in a month, so I limit my "torrenting" to just a few per month.

I can relate, here where I live is very remote and wide open, most cell phones do not even work here, it was only very recently that we even had cable TV available as an option.

There is satellite available, but it's cost prohibitive.
