I thought this snake looked kind of odd.....found out late some kids had stepped on it the day before. not sure if it was on purpose or accident. the poor guy was dead

That's a shame. The snake makes it all the way through brumation and gets killed that way.
Emerging snakes always look so rough and dirty.

yea, crawling up thru the mud can be messy. was a real bummer....
