    Re: Hypo lost forever...

Im so sorry for your loss Shannon,
I know exactly how you feel.
I've lost both my pugets to what seems to be the same illness, but i cant figure out why it happened to them and not the others. Its very discouraging. But I still havent lost hope in the hobby. Theres still so much more to learn and experience. Heck, the reason I got interested in garters is the fact that there is such little known about them compared to other snakes. In the eyes of most people they are mere vermin, but all of us in this community find them fascinating enough to brag about what we do know!
Dont give up, so many people still look up to you.

Oh. Because you know, it seems to me that, aside
from being a little mentally ill, she's pretty normal.

That's quite possibly the worst loss story I've heard since I joined. That's just awful. I've only lost normal, (but special to me) every day garters to old age, maybe one or two to accidents/escapes but never to mysterious death like that, and none so special as that one so I can't imagine what you're going through. So sorry.

    Re: Hypo lost forever...

Thanks everyone for your kind words! I of course, will never actually quit snakes. That would be like me quitting coffee and tea. And that will NEVER happen!

I've almost been in denial about this whole thing but with so much work to be done with all the snakes that are alive I am always thinking about how it sucks that it had to be her, but I have many happy healthy snakes and am blessed with all of you to keep me going strong.

I went out the other day and spent all of my Xmas money on a full sized refridgerator for brumation. I was going to get like a really big mini, or a large wine cooler, but then I realized that if I spent $200 on one of those, it would be okay for this year, but come next year it wouldn't be enough and I'd have to buy another. SO I spent $150 more and got myself 12 cubic feet of fridge instead.

Next is the video camera for taking high definition video of the snakes. This coming season, in addition to filming just whatever in the snakeroom I'd love to do a full blown documentary short detailing the entire reproductive cycle of the eastern garter snake. Capturing it all on film, especially the birthing process, will be the hardest part!

Sorry to hear that... It is really hard to lose such a snake, but I am sure the rest of them need you as much as she did. So please don't let your sorrow make you leave the rest of the collection.
