    Re: Lucky then and now

Our little(haha) Lucky has been off food for a few weeks now and it's upsetting Gabby.
Gabby knows that Lucky does this every year at about this time and that she'll eat when she's good and ready. I took a couple pics. while Gabby had her out. Lucky was resting with her head on the pillow. She never moved even when I got down with those two. She has no fear of us and I think would rather be with us instead of in with those SNAKES.

she is a beautiful snake! my Monty is still so small (and yet so much larger than he was just a couple of months ago). I hope to one day be able to have him hang out with me and not be freaked out by everything. What a wonderful family!

    Re: Lucky then and now

Here's a few photo's I took of Lucky at the end of Summer. I have many, many radixes here at the Ranch but our girl Lucky is the centerpiece. She gets more attention than any other snake and seems to be very different from the rest.
Lucky was a wild caught baby and settled into life with us the day we found her. She has no startle response with us. She seems to enjoy her time out and seem to get agitated when put back into her enclosure. A lot of my snakes could be called tame but they still have some startle response and at times want to be left alone. Not Lucky.
Taking her outside for a photo shoot doesn't phase her. Having a camera in your face doesn't bother her at all.
I know that she is a once in a lifetime snake. I'm glad it was in my lifetime.

I remember as a child, digging salamanders out of our window wells (They were the king spotted, so not too shabby) placing it in a coffee can; running thru the house and waking my mother up from a nap (she probably was trying to get rid of a migraine) and shoving the coffee can under her nose (now that I think about it, probably not such a good idea) and asking (very excitedly) "What's that?" Followed by "Can I keep it?" When my mother would always say "yes".

    I really miss that...
I know what you mean. When I was 10 I came home with a bucket filled with about 50 ordinoides that I had scooped up while they were breeding in piles. My mom was very tolerant, but she said you can't possibly keep them all. Pick 3 she said. So, I set the bucket down and promptly knocked it over in the dining room. Snakes everywhere while mom and I were both franticly trying to pick them up as they scattered. The cat found a few escapees over the following weeks and brought them to my mom, leaving them in her bed with only minor injuries.

Steve, thanks for sharing the pics. It's awesome to see how they both grew.
