    They remember

Sunday is a fed day for most of the radixes on the Ranch. Speckle's babies have been a special group to me but have been shadowed by all the babies as of late. As a rule I would put the food dish in and hand feed as many as I could . Some would get their own but many would wait for me to offer it. I didn't mind and enjoyed feeding them. With all the additions to the Ranch I haven't been able to hand feed this group. They would feed on their own with me standing by to break up fights.
Today, I decided to feed this group first. I put the food down and watch for any trouble. I saw a couple of smaller kids not moving towards the food dish so I grabbed some salmon pieces and fed them. All of the sudden I noticed the food dish was void of snakes and I could feel something touching my elbow. I pulled my arm back to see what was touching it. To my amazement most of the little radixes had moved away from the food and onto the pile of branches that was in the enclosure. There they were, looking up at me waiting to be fed. Each face saying "me next"
The little scrubs remember being hand fed and apparently prefer that. It's been 3 months since the last time I hand fed them. They are all so much bigger now.
I've felt guilty not hand feeding them but it's been a very busy ranch.
It is a great joy to me when I hand feed my little one and these scrubs reminded to slow down and enjoy this awesome part of caring for them.

They are not just snakes. They're garter snakes.
