I didn't know it was illegal to sell Garter snakes in Quebec. You learn something new every day! It would make sense as to why I haven't located any breeders here though :s
I went searching for some Garter Snakes yesterday actually because my parents have ponds and I know they can be found near water. As big as the ponds were, I didn't see any Snakes, I used to find breeding balls there and everything, but I think because of the dogs, the snakes may have moved else where. How do they adapt from wild capture to captivity? I would prefer to have a captive bred snake I think because I can't get the idea that the snake once knew bigger and better things than his tank.

I think the dog scared the snakes, you should go without your dog Better chance for you .If there is frogs ,probably there is garter snake . IN your location there is probably more species !ONly garter snake is legal by the way,and you better take my captive bred than wild caught Especially if your first garter snake??
Be patient make and set an aquarium or vivarium .I give you news soon. After few meals in aughust should be OK.

The dogs don't come with me, but they're always around the ponds, so I think I'll have to go farther out to find some. There are hundreds, probably thousands of tadpoles in that pond, so I'm sure the snakes are there... Somewhere lol

Around here though I don't know if we have a lot of snake species, the only ones I ever see are garter snakes. Apparently we have the odd Copper Head snake to, which is venemous, but I have yet to come across one and according to a study by McGill university there aren't any "poisonous" snakes in Quebec... but because they used the word poisonous as opposed to venemous, it makes me wonder how much they really know lol.

Anyway, I look forward to hearing more about those babies and i'm anxious for August

Lol! I meant the book! I know we have a lot of red belly snakes here, I was googling later last night and my boyfriend saw a picture of one and he was like THATS the snake I saw in the back yard. He said it was pretty long.
