    Re: Other Reptiles/Amphibians

    no photo entry, but . . .
some of you probably remember my beardie, Henner
he needed to go to the vet today
he's always been a fussy eater, and he's always lost a little weight in winter, but this year, he just totally lost his appetite and got constipated to boot
I've been soaking him more frequently, once I realized it was a bit worse than usual
it seems that now he needs to hear running water to stimulate peristalsis
I ordered him an entire selection of all his favourite bugs - to no avail
his hip bones are sticking out now, and it's scary, so he went to the vet today
she couldn't get any blood from him, but she gave him fluids and B12, and I'm force feeding him carnivore care at home
hopefully he'll start eating on his own soon - several of the hornworms are already too big for him

    Re: Other Reptiles/Amphibians

Henner went back to the vet yesterday
the force feeding isn't going well, because he bites through everything I stick in his mouth - turned the tip of my left index finger into a flap too, but it's healing back on
so yesterday the vet managed to get some blood from him and he's anaemic as well. as it turns out, she had a beardie patient with the same symptoms before, and at the time consulted with Dr Mader about it. it's a yellow fungus infection. I'll have to give him oral meds for six to eight weeks. thankfully the antifungal comes in raspberry flavour, but stlll - there's baytril for three weeks. I really must get better at sticking things in his mouth and keeping my fingertips out of it.

    Good luck, Rhea.

Who's this Dr. Mader, sure hope he knows what he's talking about. Does he have much experience with reptiles I've got a book from someone with that same name. Wonder if they're related

Sounds like you've got the right person on your side.
