    Re: Shannon's Snakes Photo Thread

by the end of the day, they were able to tell me exactly what to do if they saw a snake in their yard (run and get mom or dad and do not touch), and they were also able to tell me which of my snakes were ball pythons, and which of them ate worms (they loved helping me dip garter heads into the worm tub and watching them slurp them down)..... Skyler even learned how to work the tongs and she helped pick up f/t pinkies with them for me!!! We must have fed Rose ten of the darned things

Awww, they look like they had SO much fun with you, Shannon!
I find children are the easiest to educate about snakes. They are much more curious and willing to change their mind about the "scariness" than adults.
I'm taking a couple to my kids' school tomorrow, actually. Should be a blast!

    Re: Shannon's Snakes Photo Thread

I was so worried when I came home to hear that they slept in my room last night and were SCRUNCHED up against their dad in terror because of Ra, the 7 foot evil monster (by that I mean super docile king rat snake) that lives up there.... after they met all the "little" snakes, they were reluctant but finally we went upstairs and put that fear that Ra was an evil monster to rest!!! I think the way that he keeps his head poking out all the time and his huge eyes and mean stare got to them at first... lol!!!

King rat snakes have this way with their eyes... they have eliptical pupils, and when they rest they often slant their head forward and that combined with their big red slanty eyes makes them look REALLY mad all the time

I think its great to educate the kids early. You're already a great snake mom, you'll be a great human mommy too!
