I have been dealing with Jonathan Mays from Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife filling out several MARAP (Maine Amphibian and Reptile Atlasing Project) forms.

2008 was the 2nd year he used radio-telemetry to study black racer home range, movement, and habitat use in southern Maine. He followed ten individual snakes and had six of them still with radios going in to the winter.

Looks like I got an invite to go out next spring with him and see some of the technologies they use and of course hopefully see a black racer! I am pretty excited for this.
