The theme for this month's photo contest will be "Snakes with their heads off the substrate." As long as their head is off the floor a few centimeters or an inch, it counts. The rules are as follows:

1) Each participant is allowed two entries per month.
2) The contest will remain open to new pictures during the first three weeks of the month, and the final week will be reserved for voting.
3) Pictures must be related to garter/ribbon snakes, and only pictures related to the designated "theme" will be eligible to win.
4) Pictures don't have to be taken recently, so old pictures are fine.
5) During the last week of March, we'll add a poll to vote for the winning picture.
6) The winner will pick the theme, or category, for April's contest. The theme will be completely at the winner's disgression, and the winner may choose not to have any theme, if desired.
7) The winner may submit photos for the following month's contest, but the same person is not allowed to win two months in a row. (This prevents the winner from choosing categories they're likely to win the following month).
8) Unless specifically stated otherwise, each participant in the photo contest gives his/her permission to reproduce their pictures in the "Caption contest" and "voting polls." If the person wishes that their picture is not reproduced for these purposes, they should explicitly state so with their entry.
9) Winning photographers will be contacted for permission to display their winning photograph at on the portal page (www.thamnophis.com) for one month, and in an archive of winning photographs.
