I have spent some time this year outside looking to see what I can find. When I refer to snake hunting I don't keep every snake I find, finding and photographing and occasionally testing myself by catching them is half the fun. I will admit that after finding my male eastern this year that I have brought him home some gals to share his place with next spring (post worming and delivery of any of this years little ones). I have been running 100% of spotting and catching snakes so far (8 for 8). But as usual I digress, I have gone to my favorite place to look for reptiles when I was back in my home town yesterday and no matter how hard I looked (which wasn't as much as I'd like since my gravid wife was resting in the car burning gas to power the AC lol) I could not find a single Nerodia. In the past this place has produced upwards of 18 snakes before, I did find a couple nice gals and brought one home with me but left the noteable gravid one there so she should do her part. Seems strange to me that this year the numbers are backwards for me, normally I find two to three times as many Nerodia as garters, maybe I'm just looking harder for garters or something. Has anyone else noticed this or am I just thinking too much lol. Anyhow I think I'll go grab the camera and go do some poking around and then grab some chow for the snakes on the way home (some are slower to finding tilapia palatable than others lol.
