With the large amount of snake enclosures on the Ranch I have to change many water dishes often. A pattern has taken shape with my young garters.
The younger snake will enter the food dish(cut-up worms) and by the end of the meal most are covered with worm fluids.
Like clock work within a few hours their water dish will be filthy and all the snakes will be squeaky clean.
The reason for my thread is to gives kudos to these snakes for their good hygiene practices.
Many, if not most non-snake people believe garter snakes to be filthy. This is of course one of those misnomers about garter snakes.
They are not dirty but rather clean and well maintained snakes.
Just another good reason to keep them.
