Spend most of the day herping the alleys of Omaha. We stayed in a 6x8 block area.
Turning rocks and trash over and walking vacant lots. We spoke to a few people from the neighborhood, who all stated there were many Garter snakes in the area. Here’s the total for the day.

The only snakes caught or sited were T.radix.

30 Females
18 Males
8-sited unknown sex

Total 56

We didn’t find any big females but did find 8 that I believe
were gravid. Of the entire snakes only 2 were caught in open areas (grassy vacant lots)
Most were found under rocks and other debris.
16 of the total were last fall babies.
Their base color ranged from olive green to that dark brown phase.
Dorsal stripes were the typical yellow to orange.

One female had an injury just above her cloaca.
I did bring her home and will schedule a Vet appointment for next week.
For the time being I will treat with Silver Sulfadiazine
Cream.
It was a good day.

There are a lot of rock walls in the area and that is where we found most of the radixes.
