Here are a few more pics of this beautiful little snake! "Sharpie" is a WC Contia tenuis from near Willow Creek, CA in eastern Humboldt County. This species normally feed on small slugs in the wild, but will also feed on very small salamanders. My captive specimen will only feed on Batrachoseps (slender salamanders). This has sustained Sharpie since April 2007. He (?) usually takes the tail first (slenders are capable of caudal autotomy, where the tail may break on multiple axis planes) in 1 or 2 breaks, and will then hunt for the rest of the animal. This is a high maintenance snake, where temperature and humidity must be carefully monitored at all times.
