Well, this is what happened: Two wandering garters and a San Francisco were being kept in the same enclosure. I sat in front of my computer a meter and a half away. I heard them thrashing around and I immediately realised that something's wrong. I turned around to see the SanFran racing around the enclosure with the smallest snake in the group, this wandering garter, in pursuit. Suddenly the wandering garter changes direction, cuts straight across the enclosure, intercepts the SanFran and grabs it behind the head. At this time I'm already unlocking the enclosure. The wandering garter starts working its jaws. I grabbed it by the neck and after a couple of seconds it let go of the SanFran. Long story short, the SanFran was shaken for maybe an hour and the offender ended up in solitary confinement.

No food had been in the enclosure for several weeks, as I feed them separately outside the enclosure. This also happened several days after the previous feeding, so nothing really suggests that this was a "feeding accident".
