    Another Lost Checkered

I have 3 of the above, born in 07. They are approx. 12 inches long and are masters of hiding. Today I went to feed them and I have one that is AWOL. I searched the usual hiding places in the cage etc... to no avail.
Everything looks fine and I can't imagine the one getting out. One was a bit smaller than the others but not significantly so.

My question is, can Checkerds be canabalistic? I know Wanderings are and I'd like to know if this is a possibility before I tear my house up!

    Thank you,

    Bob

Yes, in my experience Checkereds can be cannibalistic, but it is usually adult males eating newborns. I think if one of yours had eaten it's cage-mate you would notice that it was significantly bulkier than it should be!

i agree with james, i never heard of a checkered eating another snake that's roughly it's own size. good luck finding her/him.

Could it be that they get restless at this time of the year? One of mine managed to get out a couple of weeks ago, too, and I realised when one of the cats got really excited. Luckily Zuki is back with her friend but minus the tip of her tail.

You might well be right there, Esther.... they may be looking for a suitable hibernation den!
