Ribbon on the Ranch

I've found myself keeping some too mostly because i want to see the growth once they're bigger. I mean i have Smoke and Red's first sheds so that'll be cool to see them once they're adults!

Shyblue may not be as cuddly as I want but she sure is adjusting to Ranch life in other ways.
She came right out to me for some fish and turkey heart. She also had to defend her food against an aggressive radix.
She did a good job and never backed down. I also saw her challenge a big radix female for a piece of fish.
I can see she's not going to be a pushover.
The more I see of her the more I love this ribbon snake.

Just looked back on the thread at the pic of her you posted in the beginning. Realized I had never seen a pic of her before. She is really a very stunning snake.

This afternoon I passed Shyblue's enclosure and saw her watching me. I moved toward the screen door and she did also. Hoping she wanted to make some contact I opened the enclosure. Shy continued coming toward me so I held very still. She reached me and touched me with her tongue.
Then like a fool I blinked. She bolted to the back of her home.
She is so jumpy and fast. She's getting more bold with the other snakes and is a joy to have.

She reminds me of Cee Cee when you describe her and how skiddish she is...Cee Cee does stuff just like that. Makes my heart go out to her.

I think Shyblue's reaction is just a built in survival skill.
She will probably stay this way.
In any event she is a beautiful snake and will always be welcomed here.

While down in the snake room a few nights ago I observed something interesting about Shyblue.
She was in the warm hide with many of the other snakes. Her side was exposed to the front opening of the hide.
I started rubbing her side. She couldn't see me and I just assume she thought it was one on her cage mates touching her.
It didn't seem to bother her and she accepted it.
I can imagine if she knew it was me. She would have bolted out of the hide.
It was nice to able to touch her without any of her jumpy behavior.
I dream of the day she will accept me like the radixes do but I don't think that kind of trust is in her DNA.
