    Constrictor Radix

This morning I was feeding a group of radixes when I saw my lone male in the group come out. His name is Opie and has some beautiful red coloring. I picked him up to check him over. He pulled the typical male response. He tried to get away and get back int he enclosure. I decided to keep holding him until he got tired as I don't get much time with him. After about a minute he stopped trying to get away and threw a coil around two of my fingers. Then to my surprise he started squeezing those fingers. He wasn't caught by me but had caught me. I then felt rapid contraction on my fingers. Opie had stretched up my arm and was forcing his head against my arm to apply more pressure.
Looking in his eyes I saw a "take that and that" look. He wasn't a happy man.
I decided to play along so I dropped to the floor and faked unconsciousness. He slowly released his grip and came around to my head and tried to swollow it.
Ok, ok I made up that last part.
He was though very determined to show me he was in charge. I put my hand up in the enclosure and he released me.
I've never had a garter snake do that before.
    I was very impressed.
    Go get'em Opie.

I remember one of my first ribbons, Steve (full name Steve Harris :P), used to do this whenever I gave him to someone to handle

I hope he was constricting and not doing the "pelvic thrust"
I had just finished holding a female from another enclosure. Maybe he was confused.

Had me going there for a minute Steve, cause I could actually picture you dropping to the floor and faking unconsciousness

Mama and Snakey like to do that to me, too. Mama's a lot stronger and she seems to love constricting my fingers and wrist.
Also... I'm sure he was doing a pelvic thrust... You're snakes love you that much...
    Haha, poor Steve.

Yeah..you had me going there too! I got to the part where you said the snake tried to swallow your head...and I said "nuh uh!"...out loud....then I read the next part! Lol....

Selena still freaks out when I hold her...trying to get out of my hands the whole time...I usually sit there and switch her back and forth from hand to hand for a couple of minutes...making her spend some time getting used to my sent before I put her back in her enclosure. After a while, she will start doing this funny thing where she wraps around and squeezes my fingers and then inches along my hand like an inchworm..it's very funny to see, and really weird to feel!
