I´m very confused. Could it being, that the blue color come later? What are the differences between Florida blue and similis? It´s difficult for me.

Actually, I'm having second thoughts. It could definitely be a T. sirtalis similis.

do you have pics of the male and female that produced it?That would clear it up.They look the same as babies but way different as adults.Even a lot of popular snake books have them confused.

it really isn't entirely clear-cut, when I go back and look closely at the photos, but at first glance I was pretty sure
are there intergrades of the two?

The yellow of the dorsal stripe still has me saying sirtalis ... remember similis is known as the 'blue-striped' garter snake and the checkered area should appear a more 'uniform' black.

I saw one that scott produced in 07 that was really rich in blues, but I've seen some that are just tinted.

Its a very nice looking snake either way. I hope it gets cleared up as to what speices it is and you enjoy it what ever the out come.

I'm gonna have to say that to me it looks like that's a thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis "florida blue" A similis has a more uniformly colored area in between the stripes, the stripe is really yellow on that specimen, and the head shape and coloring are a bit off. It's still a beautiful animal!!

taking a second look im not so sure... it could be a similis... but it doesnt look like any similis I have seen before! It has really bronze eyes, which is characteristic of the eastern, but the similis I have all had silvery gray eyes. I'm having a hard time with this one!
