Re: not a garter, but have you seen this?

well the fact that she said it does it all the time is disturbing... BUT....

My very first snake Bandit is a california kingsnake. He often decides that my hand in the tank = food and tries to grab me. One time, he got the tip of my ring finger and before I even KNEW what had happened, my 4 foot kingsnake had it swallowed all the way down as far is he could go. It hurt a LOT... usually, running them under water makes them let go, not Bandit!!! I tried cold water, then some whiskey, then rubbing alcohol, and finally I ran the hot water under the faucet and had to quickly bob his head under it about 3 times before he would finally let go. It took 15 minutes to get him off me!!! He definitely was not injured by spitting my finger out of his mouth, its so lubed up with saliva that it won't hurt them.... but the fact that this woman decided to stop and videotape it instead of try and get the snake off, and the fact that she allows this to happen often is just plain stupid. In my opinion, that video shows no abuse, just stupidity.

"She always tries to eat me." Those are her exact words. That's hardly the same as "I always let her swallow my finger before making her regurgitate it."

    Re: Looking for a lizard

everybody loves our beardie, and he has quite the personality
I did foster a leopard gecko for a while and liked her
the uromastyx are goofy and great eaters (vegetarian - a great boon), but they can move a bit fast and they need a ton of heat
our crested gecko is wonderful to hold and also pretty much vegetarian - easy to feed
for docile and personable I also highly recommend a blue tongue skink, and those don't even move fast

    Re: Looking for a lizard

Thanks, I originally thought that beardeds were relativly "low maintanence" and they were my original selection but I was recently told they have high needs as far as lighting, feeding and even deworming??Any ideas as to their feeding costs?

Glad yours is doing so well.

They are very docile for the most part. (rare exceptions excluded)
if you really want one, don't get it at petco
I bet there's one needing to be rescued

    Re: Other Reptiles/Amphibians

That's the only way I'd ever get one Rhea. When we got Cain, I had no interest in a BP, but I could not leave him in squalor.

There is a rescue about 80 miles from here that has BP, Red Tail Boas and Iguanas frequently.
