    Storeria Story

While watching the Super Bowl I was scanning though my "Snakes of North America"-Eastern and Central Regions Field Guide when I saw a group of photos featuring Storeria. He's the list of snakes. Not sure if all these are recognized as this book was printed in 2003.
In any event I had no idea there were so many.

    Little brown snakes are awesome.

Northern Red-bellied Snake (Storeria occipitomaculate occipitomaculate)
    Florida Red-bellied Snake (Storeria o.obscura)
Black Hills Red-bellied Snake (Storeria o.pahasapae)
Northern Brown Snake (Storeria dekayi dekayi)
    Florida Brown Snake (Storeria d.victa)
    Midland Brown Snake (Storeria d.wrightorum)
    Texas Brown Snake (Storeria d.texana)
    Marsh Brown Snake (Storeria d.limnetes)

They are not just snakes. They're garter snakes.

I believe the Storeria dekayi dekayi are native to Delaware. They seem like neat snakes to have. Would be nice to come across one while out herping this spring and summer.

Yes they are and yes we do.
Babies can be difficult to work with because they are so small.
Wayne (infernalis) is the dekayi man.
I hope to work with them again sometime in the future.

Okay...I was just looking at pictures of them...they are too adorable...especially the babies. I want one. They look a lot like garters.

Oooo...Hermes needs a roomie...and brown snakes are small. I wonder if I can get one. Oh no...I just watched a video on youtube of a girl who is a herper and she is telling everyone that brown snakes are a type of garter snake. I tried to post something correcting her but I don't think my post went through.
