    Philodryas Baroni?

    Anyone kept Philodryas Baroni?
I've seen a few come up for sale recently, they're probably not very common this side of the Atlantic, but I believe there's a few knocking around the States. I had a bit of a read and they seem like interesting snakes... I'm half tempted, despite the rear fangs. Char's not convinced.

Yeah, Char was interested... right up to the point I said "rear fangs". She could be brought round, although these guys aren't too cheap, could get a pair of infernalis for the price of one of these.

My hognose is rear fanged and mildly venomous. I think being rear fanged would make it harder for them to to bite a larger object (me!) and inject the venom. He was a little pissy last week, turns out he was getting ready to shed!

Yeah...so these snakes are actually hots, Chris? I understand that rear-fanged hots are less dangerous than others but still...I don't think I would want a venomous snake. It is very beautiful though.

It's not a hot as such. Depends on your definition, yes they carry venom, but they don't have a mechanism to "inject" it. The venom runs into their saliva and the rear fangs have grooves that helps the venom flow into a wound by capillary action.
Having a weak venom from Duvorny glands and a poor mechanism to deliver it... Sound familiar?

I have! Treat it like you would a hognose. Just don't let him bite you and start chewing and youll be fine! Baroni are very cool snakes to have... Inquisitive and good appetites to boot!
