    75 gallon tank

Do any of you use a tank this large for your garters? Or are you doing something more custom by the time you need an enclosure this size? There's one for sale on CL, with screen lid and stand, asking $110 OBO. Hmmmmm...

Ask for them to send you pictures first so you don't waste the time and gas going there just to find it's cracked. I would love to have such a large enclosure for our girls.

I want to reply, but I have to wait til I get home. If I send it from my work email, and then go home, I can't get the response until tomorrow. I'll send it when I get home after my p/t job. I want to know where it is too! And that 75 gallon tank will weigh 140# empty! I'm gonna need help!

Looks nice. Wish I could afford such a big one and then had the space to put it. I need a reptile room!!!

    Re: 75 gallon tank

I usually pay no more than $1 a gallon and have no problem finding people willing to sell them for that price. Without stand of course, and sometimes without screen for the large tanks (anything over 20 gallon).

Just keep in mind that gallons doesn't mean squat when it comes to ground dwelling snakes. I prefer my tanks to be no taller than 24 inches (for more efficient use of light/overhead heat) and it's the length and width that really count. For example, no sense in getting a 30 gallon instead of a 20 gallon if the 30 is simply taller, but with the same floor space as a 20. The tank you are describing is the same length as a 55 gallon long, but 6 inches more floor space the other direction. You could keep up to 6 adults in that tank comfortably, especially if you provide more than one basking spot/multiple hides. It's also large enough to have a small water feature/water fall at one end if you wish. I used a 55 gallon long. It was a great enclosure:

Here's a good web page to reference when shopping for tanks. Go for short height and more floor space, IMO. Ignore the gallons. Find out the dimensions when shopping. People often get the gallons wrong when posting ads. If you know the dimensions, you can find out the gallons, not that gallons really matter. $100 is a reasonable price for the tank if it truly is 48 X 18 inches and has a good screen top.

What I want next is a big cabinet to put both of my vivs on...one on top of the other. I need to find someone who can make me one.

Doesn't look all fancy or anything but I bought a shelf for $50 at Costco for that. The only problem with a wood cabinet is that it traps heat. With the way I have my tanks setup I needed plenty of air flow and vertical space between the tanks, which is adjustable as needs change.

    Re: 75 gallon tank

The screen lid is included, and he's willing to come down on the price a little. But he's over an hour away. It'll cost me the difference in gas money.

I can't reply to his email until I get home, so that gives me some time to think about it. It won't just cost the $90 though. I'll eventually need appropriately sized heat and lighting, tank decor, etc. Maybe I should just grow up the little guys and keep my eyes open...
