    .... for a garter to not want to eat when it's having a shed??

    Yes. Some do it some don't. My babies all eat in shed, (not always as much) but my adult doesn't. It's very common and perfectly normal.

    It also depends on how your presenting it sometimes. Mine don't like to leave the hide and go to the food when theyre shedding, but if will eat it all given to them with tongs(hemostats)

    Happens all the time. Then there are others that eat right through the shed.
    My Shyblue(T.p.orarius) Ribbon snake doesn't eat while in opaque phase.
    My radixes don't care and continue eating no mater what.(pig snakes)

    Blade and Maria don't eat while in shed. The others do though.
