Here's an idea: start with a shallow plastic or glass pan. You can pick something like that up at Wal-Mart. Maybe a plastic tub, if you want something particularly large or deep. That would make a good place to start.

I was going to suggest some stuff called "Great Stuff" - it's a spray foam. But I'm not sure it would be the best thing for water applications. But concrete or cement would make a great alternative for that.

You can also get "natural" stone-colored paints from your local hardware or chain department store. Let it dry real good (couple of days) before putting in the enclosure. Wouldn't want any of those harmful chemicals getting into the poor snakes systems.
People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually, from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey stuff.

So if i let the paint dry for a few days it should be good?

I didn't mean big ones like the ones I use for enclosures. I mean about the size of those I use to wash dishes in. Wal-mart has them for about $2.

As for the paint, others have used it for artificial hides and the like. As long as it is not lead-based, I don't see how it could be harmful, as long as the paint has had sufficient time to completely dry.

just some input about large water bowls . . .
they are a pain in the neck (and other body parts) to keep clean - anything one cannot pick up with one hand when it's full, wash, and refill in a couple of minutes, ends up being a production every time the water needs to be changed
this can get old after a while

We use a ceramic dish 10"x6"x1" that was used to catch water under a planter. It's heavy, they can lounge in it, and it's easy to change.

If you make a heavy water feature, one of these might help:

A siphon pump. Cheap at Wal-Mart. I have two, and I swear by them.
