    Nice surprise

I got home from vacation today to find that both Harley and Houdini had shed while I was gone. Better still, the blister-looking spots on Houdini's stomach are gone now!

It was really cute the way they acted when I came in the room. They're used to getting so much interaction it must've seemed odd to them that no one hand-fed them or took them out for so long. Houdini actually stopped trying to escape when I put my hand in there and just laid his head on it and waited like "Okay, you can take me out now". He always enjoys being held, but he's usually constantly moving. Him resting his head on me like that was really sweet. I always try to be careful not to put human emotions onto my reptiles, but that really seemed about as close to 'I missed you' as a snake can get. I'm sure it's not as complex as what my dogs felt when they went absolutely crazy greeting us, but it was unique enough (in my experience with snakes) that I thought it was worth mentioning.

Mainly, I'm just thrilled that those blisters have cleared up! They had me worried.

You need to go on vacation more often.

All kidding aside, that's great news.

I'm just continually surprised by the things they do. It's crazy how I had him for so long and didn't notice anything special, but as soon as I started really giving him time and attention it's like he suddenly became this great, interactive pet. My family was amused by me phone-stalking my grandparents making sure they were doing everything right for the snakes.

That's what I keep telling people, but they have yet to set up a fund to help me out with that..

    Re: Nice surprise

If I don't "love on" my snakes for a while, sometimes they seem to seek that attention out, because they're so used to having it. Snakey and Mama do it the most. Mama gets held pretty often, so when I'm down and don't feel like holding her for a while, she'll sometimes zoom out of the tank and into my hands when I open it. It's kind of cute.
Snakey goes through little phases of seeking attention and not wanting to be touched at all. He comes up to me or slithers around the tank until I put my hand in, and he'll come up to my hand and inch his way up my arm. He usually sits still, too. He's the kind of snake that just has to be on the move at all times... But the moments he actually sits still and lets me rub his head make owning him even more special.

Thats how my anery, and my new concinnus are. They are always moving, and very curious, so my hand is a chance to go somewhere.

    Glad the blisters gone!

    Re: Nice surprise

Last time I was gone for two weeks on vacation, I had my dad taking care of Theif and all of the other reptiles.
When I came back and first saw me she was chewing on the glass wall trying to get to me I guess. She was really happy to see me I think, she was sniffing me a lot too.
